A Bug's Life
During our 3-day fasting retreat, God met me in some pretty awesome ways! Here’s how:
Have you ever really stopped to think about a bugs life? I know I certainly had not, until last weekend.
As I was lying outside, under the open blue skies, just praying and journaling about the things of God; His goodness, greatness, love, mercy, grace, all of these things, I was constantly being disturbed. This bug was doing what it seems to do best…bugging me! I fist spotted the little guy on my backpack that was adjacent to me at the time. My very first instinct…FLICK! The guy went flying. “Surely he’s not coming back,” I cleverly thought to myself. I continued on with my journaling, popping in some tunes that lead me to freely worshipping my Lord. Now get this! Moments later my “friend” soon returned, but this time was even closer. He didn’t move. He wasn’t really bothering me per say, but of course…FLICK! And there he went, soaring through the sky. Now this happened 3 or 4 times over, and each time he returned, he got closer and closer to me.
Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted him on the brim of my hat. Now, with a sense of frustration and irritation I sat up and flung the bug off my hat, then fixed my hair, put my hat back on, and continued writing. As soon as my pen hit the page, God spoke to me clear as the skies that day! He said: “Katie, this is exactly how you are with me. I try to move in, closer and closer to you, but you keep finding ways to just ’flick’ me away.” With revelation flooding my mind, I immediately leaped from the ground and tried to find my little bug friend. He was no where to be found.
I did not fret or fear, because I know the promises God has for me in his Word. Deuteronomy 31:6 says: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Regardless of my actions, God still loves me unconditionally. It is in His character. He is a God who LOVES hence; John 3:16 “For God so LOVED the world…” And that character never changes (Hebrews 13:8). Even when I mess up or fail to seek him, he STILL, now and forever, pursues me! “My beloved is mine and I am his;” Song of Solomon 2:16. I believe in a jealous God, who loves me for me! Every day, I fall deeper, more intimately in love with my God and the wonderful plans he has in store for my life (Jeremiah 29:11). In this very same way, He loves YOU; unconditionally. The greatest thing is that “God loves you just the way you are, but He loves you WAY TOO MUCH to keep you that way!” He wants to change your life, just as he has mine. He wants to be your all in all. You’re one and only! He doesn’t want to be just a part of your life, but ALL of it!
Take a moment to just quiet yourself, wherever you are. Thank God for all he has done in your life & the many more incredible experiences he has in store for you. Thank him for delighting in YOU, for loving you, for creating all things for you to enjoy here on this earth. I pray that the Lord fills your heart with incredible passion and zeal to pursue all things him and lay aside all things us. 1 John 2:17 tells us that, “This world is fading away, along with everything it craves. But if you do the will of God you will love forever!” Cling to His promises. Let go & let God! What is stopping you now?
